Psychiatry

Mental, neurological and behavioral disorders are common in all countries, but in Haiti mental illness is not well accepted in the Haitian culture. Due to more prominent physical illnesses, mental illness usually goes unnoticed and hard to detect by health professionals. Nowadays, Haitians are likely to develop mental disorders due to extreme poverty, high prices of food, repeated surges of violence and the lack of national security. The hospitals psychiatric unit will treat patients suffering from a range of psychiatric disorders including anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depression and schizophrenia. Patients will be stabilized through medications and therapies in a peaceful, controlled environment.
